Liam's Homecoming

Connor told Liam all about his adventures at home, and Liam couldn't wait to join him. Friday was his day to come home and experience everything for himself.

The honour guard was once again out in force (and snazzily dressed) for Liam's arrival.

Uncle Cam was able to hold Liam for the first time. That's one of the great things about twins: you're able to do most things for the first time twice. It does create a feeling of deja vu...

Dad was happy to finally have both of his boys home.

Connor's Homecoming

One of the advantages of the boys staying in the Rich Little Special Care nursery is that we have been able to ease into parenting. It has been difficult commuting to visit the boys, but this has given us the time to recover from all the excitement of the birth (and make sure the nursery is ready for their arrival).

Yesterday we were finally able to bring Connor home for the first time! Everyone was very excited to meet him. Uncle Cam eagerly awaited his nephew and provided the honour guard escort to the house.

This was also Uncle Cam's first opportunity to hold Connor.

Molly was able to meet Connor too. Finally she has a face for all the smells she's been picking up over the last couple of weeks.

Grandmaman & Liam

Yesterday Grandmaman finally got to hold Liam for the first time.

More Pictures

We took some more pictures today of both the boys together.

Aren't they adorable? Of course, I'm just a little biased...

Quick Progress Report

The boys have been doing incredibly well. Liam no longer requires his IV, and is now in a big boy bed like his brother's. They have been moved to the "Balloon Room", which is the "staging area" before being discharged. The final step is for the boys to consistently take their entire meal orally. Once the NG tube can be removed, we should be good to go.

Getting Stronger Every Day

The boys have been growing stronger every day. Connor is now eating at the level expected for his weight. Last night he ate half of his meal through the bottle - Mom has the magic touch :).

Dad was able to feed Liam last night. He receives a larger portion than his brother due to his higher birth weight, and he is still being supplemented by the IV.

The twins are finally allowed to spend some quality time together. Initially they were kept seperate for observation purposes (I think). They are showing much more brotherly love now than before birth; Connor was stroking Liam while he slept.

Grandmaman was finally able to hold Connor for the first time. It's an amazing thing to be able to hold your (grand)children for the first time. I'm happy the boys are improving to the point where we can play outside their beds.

Three Days Old

The boys have both been progressing by leaps and bounds. Liam is now able to visit with Mommy & Daddy outside of his isolette.

Connor has just graduated to a "big boy bed." He no longer requires the environmental controls of the isolette.

Both Michelle and I have been able to help with feeding and caring for the boys. The nurses have been very helpful showing us different techniques for everything from bathing to burping. It's been quite an educational few days.

Happy Birthday Boys!

Liam and Connor were born today, July 11th, 2005. Mom & babies are doing really well. It's been a really eventful couple of days, and I will blog more about it in the days to come (for now, I'm going to try to get some sleep while I still can :)) They will stay at the ICU until they reach at least 35 weeks; another nine or ten days.

Liam's birth weight was 3040 grams, or 6.7 pounds.
Connor's birth weight was 2090 grams, or 4.6 pounds.

Even though the boys are several weeks early (at the time of birth they were 33 weeks +5) they are both very healthy, and breathing unassisted.

This is a picture of our family. Michelle is holding Connor, and Liam is behind us keeping warm.

I would like to thank everyone at the high risk unit in the Civic hospital for doing a tremendous job bringing our little ones into the world.

Ultrasound: Week 32

Had another ultrasound this morning. It was moved from our regular Friday appointment to Monday, due to the Canada Day holiday. Liam is presenting, and seems to be ready to venture into the world. Connor is currently transverse and looking to the back, but he still has lots of room to move and is taking advantage of it. Both of the boys are already practicing breathing, which is very promising.

It was hard to take Liam's measurements, since Connor was casting shadows in the ultrasound. His estimated rate is in the 95th percentile, which is incredible for a twin.

Connor's Heart Rate: 143
Connor's Weight: 4 lbs. 7 oz.

Liam's Heart Rate: 162
Liam's Weight: 6 lbs
